RATIONALE
Project Management has grown to become a distinct discipline in the knowledge-based professions. Projects and their management by qualified and trained professionals is fast becoming indispensable to business and organisational success.
AIM The course follows on from Introduction to Project Development & Management. It presents a more detailed analysis of projects & programmes and the context and environment in which they exist and operate. It delves further into Project Management as a modern professional discipline and analyses the tools and techniques used for planning and implementing projects and programmes. Course material is aligned with the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), 4th Edition and focuses on four of the project management knowledge areas (the “soft side”). The course seeks to equip participants with knowledge, tools and techniques to enable them to take lead roles in programme and project planning and development in the community, in the public sector or in business enterprises.
OBJECTIVES
The course prepares the participant to
1. Describe elements of the project management plan and outline steps in project planning
2. Distinguish between project management processes and project phases
3. Select appropriate processes for developing a project plan
4. Define terms, inputs, tools and techniques, and outputs for Project Integration Management
5. Collate the overall project plan
6. Classify terms, inputs, tools and techniques, and outputs for Project Human Resources Management
7. Develop a project human resources management plan
8. . Describe terms, inputs, tools and techniques, and outputs for Project Communication Management
9. Develop a project communications management plan
10. Define terms, inputs, tools and techniques, and outputs for Project Procurement Management
11. Develop a procurement plan based on requirements for goods, works and services from external suppliers
12. Describe the log frame methodology for project development
13. Distinguish project selection methodologies
14. Explain the value of project monitoring & control and develop a simple monitoring and control plan
